Stark Season

A lot of things have happened since I last sent a Tiny Letter.  After all this while, I wanted to give some sort of update. But my head is blank, like it wants me to go straight to the point and save talk. So I will. 

I released a short song with a video about a week ago. So far, it’s been seen 18,000 times. However, what gets me the most are the stories from strangers. The random people online who have sent messages to say how I Told You spoke to them in one way or the other. How they shed a tear listening. What the words mean to them. What the music does…

Simple New Things

I’d never met Ilźe Mybourgh or Silja Frey. Never. Not before (Daniel) Etim Effiong introduced me to them about a year ago.

They listened to Forever and what ideas we had for the video and decided they wanted to be on the project. Ilźe became like an angel, doing way more than she needed to, driving us around Cape Town, making sure everything worked as it should’ve. (She has a son called Ben) *wide grin* I didn’t get to meet Silja in person until two weeks ago. The most pleasant soul. We’d worked mostly via Skype.

Sketch: The Reprise

Exactly one week ago Clash Magazine UK graciously agreed to premiere the video for my song Always. So far we’ve got pretty reviews from sites in France, Italy and some other parts, and a modest 17,000+ views (VEVO + YouTube). If you haven’t seen it yet, please watch here

The Always animation was created by Dan Ungureanu and Alma Cazacu, both Romanian, with additional help from Brian Wilson, who’s as Nigerian as his name isn’t. We wanted to tell a story as simple and evocative as the song is. A few people have said they shed a tear watching it. Mission accomplished.
